FROM THE ARTIST
Folk art represents one of our country's finest and oldest traditions. Passed down from generation to generation, it’s a way to create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces of art that represent community, family and the customs surrounding you. Using every day, utilitarian items from paper to pictures and everything in between, creates a sense of freedom and honesty that makes folk art unique. Not that my works can’t be somewhat abstract at times, because they can. But the materials and handcrafting keep everything grounded and approachable. I’ve been asked before if I have “goal” with my work and all I can say is, I just hope it brings some sense of joy or happiness to whomever happens to be experiencing it.

Early Inspirations
The first time I heard about Grandma Moses, the painter, was when Jackie Kennedy hung one of her paintings in the White House. I bought a book about her and loved both her work and her story. She didn’t start painting until she was 70 and too old for farm work. She painted the world she knew. Later, when were living in Charlotte, the school our children were attending required each family to donate something hand made. Wood from old tobacco barns was readily available so I began collecting it. Using Grandma Moses as an inspiration, I painted folk art. People bought my angels and watermelons and other folk art scenes and I was hooked. For the past 40 years I have been painting folk art and adding different media to it

Prolific and pragmatic, Patricia divides her artistic time primarily between Huntington Beach and Indian Wells, California. This website is finally a chance to begin organizing, categorizing and telling the stories behind her dedication.
"No matter what I am painting or gluing, what I enjoy is knowing that all the choices are mine to make. I am trying to please myself which can turn into a fun challenge. I do not quit on things until I am ok with the result and I try not to get down on myself because today’s problem is solved in the morning light.
I guesstimate that I have been painting over forty years and contributed a couple of hundred works to various fundraisers. I am happy to have had something to give."
